This collection probably began more than three decades ago. Finding the discipline of college life-drawing classes lacking in humour, and somewhat contrived, I doodled – musing about what the models really thought and where they would actually like to be. This eventually led to several gallery sales of pen and ink sketches, furtively executed in draughting pen and using a love of pattern as a reference.
In 2022, I ventured into digital ink, and to my delight this foray brought a new level of frivolity and expression to these illustrations. Whimsical, quirky nudes, occasionally a little naughty, but always very nice. Playful characters in their own world of dreamlike nostalgia. They now serve to represent the things we don’t talk about. From the desire to kickback and relax, to the unbidden urge to eat cake and allow the mind to wander free.
